7 tips for a stress-free newborn session

Eva and Josh got married on a cold rainy day last September in Aberdeen, SD. Honestly, gloomy wedding day weather is kind of my favorite. As long as it’s not raining you can do whatever you want! You don’t have to worry about harsh unpleasant shadows, the sun inconveniently ruining what would otherwise be a perfect image, but best of all nobody is sweaty and miserable.

I have known Eva since middle school which made this wedding extra special for me. We never had many of the same classes so we didn’t get to know each other super well but it’s always an incredible honor to photograph the wedding of someone I knew growing up. It’s exciting! Out of all the people they could have chosen to photograph their wedding they chose me! On top of that, it’s always fun to see what kind of person stole their heart.

We started the day by photographing at the bride’s parent’s lake home a few miles outside of Aberdeen. I’m sure you know what I’m going to say here, it was perfect! Honestly, it was one of the sweetest first looks I have ever captured. I’m tearing up right now reminiscing on the way Josh looks at Eva. So much love, admiration, and just pure awe. After we finished up at the lake we headed back to town for the ceremony.

Just as we finished up the last of the extended family portraits and headed back inside the church the sky opened up and the rain poured down like it had been waiting for us all day. The ceremony was gorgeous and instead of doing your typical unity candle or sand pouring they planted a tree! How fabulous is that? It seriously might be my favorite part of their wedding. It’s just such a great metaphor for relationships, family, and life in general.

Their reception took place at the Dakota Events Center and was AMAZING! The decorators at Mood Signature Events definitely outdid themselves. The food Mavericks provided was delicious as usual and DJ Sieff  definitely kept the party going. All in all, it was an amazing day and I am so thankful that I got to be part of such a spectacular and special day. So, thank you Josh and Eva and I wish you all the happiness in the world.
