Picking the perfect outfit for your family’s photo session can be a challenge! But here are a few tips to ease your stress.
Always consider the weather when picking outfits!
This should really go without saying but if you aren’t dressed appropriately for the weather you’re going to have a bad time. You’re either going to be too hot or too cold and that is not something I can fix in Photoshop. If you are unsure of what the weather might be like plan for layers! Either things that can be added or taken away depending on the day’s temp.
Color coordinate but don’t match.
Gone are the days of everyone wearing white t’s and blue jeans…unless of course, that’s your thing then totally by all means go for it. However, what I recommend is finding colors and patterns that work together. Jewel tones almost always pair wonderfully, patterns on kids can be a great addition, and you can even use a good neutral to tie everything together!
Be true to yourself.
Don’t get caught up in what’s trending! If you don’t feel comfortable in big hats or flowy dresses then please don’t show up to your session that way! I personally love a sassy dress moment but as much as I would LOVE to be able to rock a hat I really just hate the way they look on me. And I’m not hiring a photographer just so I can regret my outfit choice for the next 5 years. What you want to do is be an elevated version of yourself.
Old Navy color coordinates what they release seasonally! So if you’re looking for your one-stop shop for affordable family apparel check them out! They even have an entire section on their website dedicated to this.
If you’re still feeling hesitant, don’t! I work with a styling service that will help you find and source the perfect outfits for your family (and it’s included with every session package). Better yet you can do it all from the comfort of your couch!
