Those of you who have worked with me know that I am not a huge fan of posing. Gentle guidance, constant rambling, and silly prompts are more my style.
I don’t ever want any of my clients to feel uncomfortable or that these images don’t reflect them, their families, their relationship, etc. After all, these images are meant to be all about YOU. So, in order to be authentic, they should reflect that.
Here are a few of the key steps I take to authentically tell your story!
Moments trump poses is a mantra I live by. I want everyone to go ahead and repeat that one more time for the people in the back, moments trump poses.
The ONLY way to authentically tell your story is to capture moments. You can’t pose your way into something memorable. I don’t care how talented you are. If you aren’t capturing genuine real connection and emotion your images are going to always miss the mark.
It sounds silly, right? But doing something silly, something you enjoy, or just something to take your mind off of being photographed can really be helpful especially for young children or people that are already uncomfortable in front of the camera.
I know. I know. Big huge beautiful mountains are gorgeous and grand. Who wouldn’t want their photos taken there? And while I am not saying you shouldn’t go there (because honestly, I would be the first person to scream and shout YES) but why not pick something that is more your speed? If hiking and adventuring up a mountain is your jam than by all means lets photograph THAT journey. But if you like to chill at home and cuddle with your life partner lets photograph THAT!
Places that bring you joy, are attached to memories, and light your soul on fire is where I want to go.
This seems super obvious but can be the hardest thing to do! Even for photographers like me! Seriously, I instantly clam up, get super awkward, and act like I’ve never in my life been around a camera before. Being in my comfort zone helps. Being around people that know me helps. Activities, games, locations that I love, that all helps me be authentically and truly me. It helps bring my story to life.
I want to do the same for you.
As a mom and a business owner, I understand the power of a moment, the story behind a smile. Photography for me is a bridge – connecting hearts, capturing the unspoken. It’s about creating an experience that’s as enjoyable as the final product. Your ideas, your story, your essence – I’m here to bring them to life through my lens.
