When Ellyn reached out to me about photographing her intimate wedding set to take place in the Black Hills I was beyond thrilled. I don’t think I can adequately express how excited I was. The Black Hills of South Dakota are seriously my happy place. Not sure I could ever live in the area but that’s a story for another blog. Bottom line I absolutely love it there.
And if you haven’t met Ellyn she’s the world’s sweetest person and you should head on over to her store, Shopdog Boutique and say, hi! Seriously do it! And tell her I sent you!
Fast forward to the wedding day. I can count all of the times I’ve experienced fog this dense on one hand. And the thing about the Hills is the higher up you go the denser it gets. It created the most magical atmosphere. The whole day felt like we were inside a cloud. The fog even blew in around them during their ceremony.
Ellyn and Caleb decided to keep their wedding small with just them and their family present. They also decided to make a vacation out of it for their entire family which I absolutely loved. They spent the last week of September with their families hanging out at the Terry Peak Chalets in the Black Hills. Personally, I think if you’re going to have a small wedding this is an amazing time and place to do it.
First of all, I need to mention that we lucked out and fall peaked early in the hills last year. Not only was the fog so dense you could cut it with a knife all of the trees were changing color! It was nothing short of breathtaking. All of the centerpiece vases were handmade by Ellyn’s brother. The flowers were all locally grown in the Sioux Falls area! You can even find beautiful bouquets by the designer at our local co-op!
That’s not all though! Ellyn’s wedding ring was inspired and designed after her grandmother’s. How cool is that?
